Trakx’s Crypto Indices On-Chain on Canton: Institutional Access Begins

As Trakx Research Economist Ryan Shea wrote in 2023, tokenization β€œis the next big thing” in digital finance, not only for assets, but for investment strategies themselves.

For tokenization to move beyond theory, it requires institutional-grade rails: a network designed for regulated participants, real-world workflows, and interoperability with existing financial infrastructure. That’s why we chose Canton Network, a blockchain purpose-built for institutions and privacy-preserving financial applications.

Crypto Tradable Indices (CTIs) are now live on-chain on the Canton Network: Trakx CTIs can be issued, transferred, and redeemed on-chain within the same ecosystem.

This initial deployment is focused on B2B and B2B2C adoption. On-chain CTIs are currently available to partners who integrate and distribute them within their own environments. Availability for Trakx users will follow as the rollout expands.

More broadly, this marks the start of a new expansion model for Trakx: moving beyond crypto indices to provide partners with the infrastructure to tokenize and distribute strategies and exposures across virtually any asset class – from digital assets to real-world portfolios and structured products – on-chain.

Crypto Tradable Indices (CTIs) are now live on-chain on Canton

Crypto Tradable Indices (CTIs) are now live on-chain on the Canton Network, marking the first time Trakx index strategies can exist as tokenized instruments within institutional blockchain infrastructure. Distribution is no longer only limited to Trakx.

This deployment follows the launch of Trakx’s own Canton node, allowing us to participate directly in the network while issuing CTIs within the Canton ecosystem. Running a node is a necessary step for moving from experimentation with tokenization to operating a production-grade financial infrastructure.

From a product perspective, this means our crypto indices can now be issued and managed on-chain while remaining compatible with partner systems and institutional workflows built on Canton. Instead of existing only as exchange-tradable index products, CTIs can now function as tokenized strategy instruments that partners can integrate into their own environments. It provides direct ownership, transparency and an increased operational efficiency.

For partners building on Canton, CTIs can be embedded as programmable exposure layers inside tokenization platforms, investment applications, structured product pipelines, or distribution infrastructure. This allows crypto index strategies to be distributed in a way that aligns with how institutions already manage permissions, privacy, and settlement processes on Canton.

The key point is that CTIs are now issued inside an institutional blockchain environment built for financial markets.

B2B & B2B2C launch phase: Institutional access first

Institutional partners interested in integrating on-chain CTIs into their infrastructure can begin the onboarding process by contacting us on [email protected].

The on-chain deployment of CTIs begins with a B2B & B2B2C rollout focused on partners building on the Canton Network.

At this stage, on-chain CTIs are available to institutional and distribution partners who can embed them directly into their infrastructure, including asset managers and wealth platforms, banks, brokers, exchanges, tokenization platforms, and custodians, as well as technology and infrastructure providers building on Canton.

Partners can integrate CTIs within their own products and platforms, making index-based exposures available to their end users through existing financial applications, investment products, and distribution channels. Rather than relying on a single distribution point, CTIs can reach users through multiple partner channels simultaneously. Additionally, partners can create custom index strategies tailored to their investment theses or client needs using the Trakx Solutions program.

As partner integrations grow, this approach expands access to CTI strategies across a broader user base, reinforcing Crypto Tradable Indices adoption and strengthening the Trakx ecosystem over time.

Tokenizing more than crypto: Trakx as infrastructure layer for asset tokenization worldwide

While CTIs were initially designed to provide structured exposure to digital assets through index strategies, our proprietary infrastructure behind them is not limited to crypto markets.

The same framework can support a broader range of tokenized investment exposures and strategy wrappers across asset classes, including multi-asset allocations, traditional or alternative strategies, subject to appropriate legal structuring, jurisdiction, and partner-specific compliance requirements.

What started as crypto index infrastructure is evolving into a strategy issuance and distribution layer that partners can use to represent investment exposures more generally, with the underlying asset class and its tokenization model determined by the relevant legal, regulatory, and operational setup.

For partners, this means the ability to design and distribute custom strategies aligned with specific mandates, portfolio models, or thematic allocations, while leveraging Trakx infrastructure for issuance and integration. Whether the exposure relates to digital or traditional assets, the tokenisation mechanism remains the same.

This marks the emergence of a new business model for Trakx: moving from being primarily a crypto index provider to also becoming a strategy infrastructure for partners.

In this model, Trakx provides the technology and operational layer that allows partners to structure, issue, and distribute strategy-based exposures through their own platforms and products. Partners remain in control of product design, distribution, and client relationships, while Trakx enables the underlying strategy representation and issuance framework.

What comes next: More partners and CTIs on-chain access also for our retail users

The deployment of CTIs on Canton marks the beginning of a new phase for Trakx, focused on partner integrations, expanded distribution, and the gradual extension of strategy issuance capabilities across asset classes.

In the near term, the priority is onboarding institutional and B2B2C partners building on Canton. As these integrations grow, CTIs can be distributed through an expanding network of partner environments, reinforcing adoption through real usage rather than standalone product launches.

At the same time, Trakx will continue expanding the capabilities of its strategy infrastructure, supporting new types of exposures, integration models, and distribution pathways across both on-chain and exchange-based environments, including upcoming access to on-chain CTI trading on Canton also for retail users.

More broadly, this milestone reflects a long-term direction: enabling financial strategies and assets tokenization to be issued, distributed, and accessed through an interoperable, proprietary infrastructure designed for both institutional and digital-native markets.
