Trakx Weekly Update: April 7

Key Crypto Market Figures

CTIs Weekly Performance
After a relatively calm March, markets took a sharp downturn last week, with broad losses across both crypto and traditional equities. The Trakx Top 10 Crypto CTI fell by 9.5%, its worst weekly performance this year. The Bitcoin Control 15 CTI fared best, limiting losses to just -1.6%, thanks to its defensive, BTC-heavy allocation. On the other end of the spectrum, the AI Agents CTI plunged by 24%, weighed down by a sharp de-risking in AI-related tokens. The selloff came despite continued media buzz around AI advancements, as investors increasingly view these assets as overextended. The Recovery CTI also suffered, dropping 20.4%, underscoring the market’s flight from higher-beta narratives.
Extreme Fear Returns
The Crypto Fear & Greed Index plunged to 23, entering “Extreme Fear” territory for the first time since early January. While crypto often experiences sharp sentiment swings, this week’s reading is notable for aligning with a broader risk-off mood in global financial markets.
Tariff Shock Hits Risk Assets
The recent crypto downturn is not happening in isolation. Traditional stock markets also suffered sizable losses after the Trump administration implemented sweeping new tariffs targeting U.S. trading partners, including the EU, UK, and Canada. While these measures are aimed at boosting domestic exports, investors fear retaliatory actions, disrupted supply chains, and inflationary spillovers. The policy shock has led to widespread derisking across equities, commodities, and crypto alike.
